AI Engineering Manager

Type: Direct Hire

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced AI Engineering Manager to lead an internal software development team responsible for building business applications, automation, and AI-powered solutions that improve operations across the organization.

Reporting directly to the CTO, this position combines technical leadership with people management. You'll lead software delivery, guide architecture decisions, establish engineering best practices, and drive the adoption of AI technologies that create measurable business value.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software developers.

  • Manage hiring, coaching, performance, and career development.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.

Software Delivery

  • Own software delivery from planning through deployment.

  • Manage sprint planning, release processes, and development workflows.

  • Balance speed, quality, and execution while aligning work with business priorities.

Roadmap & Business Partnership

  • Partner with executive leadership to prioritize initiatives and execute the development roadmap.

  • Serve as the primary technology partner for Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and IT.

  • Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

AI & Technical Leadership

  • Lead adoption of AI technologies, AI-assisted development, and intelligent automation.

  • Evaluate emerging AI tools, frameworks, and LLM technologies.

  • Build AI agents and workflow automation that improve business operations.

  • Establish engineering standards, architecture, and code quality while providing hands-on technical guidance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive user adoption, gather feedback, and continuously improve delivered solutions.

  • Measure success through business impact and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.

  • 2+ years leading or managing software engineering teams.

  • Experience delivering internal applications, web applications, system integrations, or operational software.

  • Experience managing agile delivery, sprint planning, and release management.

  • Manufacturing or industrial experience is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with modern development technologies, including Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, React and/or Vue.

  • Experience with REST APIs, SQL, relational databases, and system architecture.

  • Hands-on experience with AI technologies, including LLM APIs, AI agent frameworks, RAG, tool/function calling, and workflow automation.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and implement emerging AI technologies.

Leadership

  • Proven ability to develop engineering talent and lead high-performing teams.

  • Excellent communication skills with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
