Cybersecurity Analyst – Data Protection

Type: Contract
Location: Columbia, SC 29201
Work Setting: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Candidate Location: Must currently reside in South Carolina. Candidates requiring relocation will not be considered.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Cybersecurity Analyst – Data Protection to support enterprise cybersecurity and data protection initiatives within a large, complex environment. This role focuses on protecting sensitive information through Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Insider Risk Management, AI/Copilot security, security monitoring, vendor security reviews, auditing, and compliance activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience investigating security events, protecting sensitive data, supporting incident response efforts, and partnering with technical and business teams to strengthen the organization's overall cybersecurity and data governance posture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and administer Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies and controls.

  • Investigate potential data loss, unauthorized access, and data exposure incidents.

  • Support Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) initiatives for AI and Microsoft Copilot.

  • Review the movement, storage, and sharing of sensitive information.

  • Assist with data classification, governance, and data handling initiatives.

  • Review and triage security alerts from DLP, Insider Risk Management, DSPM, and other security platforms.

  • Investigate suspicious activity involving sensitive information and document findings.

  • Escalate incidents according to established response procedures and assist with containment, recovery, and post-incident activities.

  • Monitor Insider Risk Management alerts and investigate potential policy violations.

  • Participate in third-party vendor security assessments and review vendor security documentation, audit reports, and questionnaires.

  • Support cybersecurity audits, compliance reviews, risk assessments, and security control validation.

  • Prepare security reports, metrics, and presentations while collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to strengthen the organization's overall security posture.

  • Recommend improvements to security policies, procedures, and security controls.

  • Participate in cybersecurity awareness and training initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).

  • CompTIA Security+ or GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) certification is required.

  • 3+ years of experience supporting enterprise cybersecurity operations, including threat monitoring, incident response, and risk analysis.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Insider Risk Management, and Data Security Posture Management for AI (DSPM for AI).

  • 3+ years of experience reviewing and triaging data security alerts, analyzing the access and movement of sensitive information, documenting findings, and escalating incidents according to established procedures.

  • 3+ years of experience collaborating with technical and non-technical teams to resolve security issues and support continuous improvement of an organization's data security posture.

Preferred Skills

  • Microsoft SC-100, SC-200, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), or Associate-level CISSP certification.

  • Experience working with AI-driven security tools, including Cortex and DSPM platforms designed to manage sensitive data used by AI systems.

  • Experience fine-tuning DLP policies, refining Insider Risk alerts, or supporting data governance programs.

  • Familiarity with Azure security, identity-based access controls, Conditional Access, and security automation or scripting.
