CornerStone Technology Talent Services is partnering with a public-sector organization on an opportunity for a hands-on Application Engineer to support and enhance an existing, mission-critical production application. This role will work directly within an established codebase and collaborate closely with internal technical and business stakeholders to support day-to-day application needs.
This is a practical, development-focused role suited for someone who enjoys working hands-on in production systems, troubleshooting issues, and implementing incremental improvements rather than designing greenfield solutions.
Role Summary
The Application Engineer will serve as a hands-on technical resource responsible for maintaining, supporting, and enhancing an existing production application. The focus of this role is on full-stack development, application stability, and responsive support, working directly in the code to resolve issues, implement fixes, and deliver targeted enhancements.
This is not a solution architect role. Success in this position depends on strong development fundamentals, comfort working within an established application environment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Work directly within an existing production application codebase to troubleshoot issues and implement fixes
• Develop and enhance application features using .NET, Python, and JavaScript
• Write and maintain SQL queries and support relational database interactions
• Support day-to-day application operations and respond to issues as they arise
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions
• Document changes, fixes, and enhancements clearly and accurately
• Follow established development standards, processes, and deployment practices
Required Qualifications
• Strong hands-on experience as an Application Engineer, Software Engineer, or Full-Stack Developer
• Proficiency with .NET, Python, and JavaScript in production environments
• Solid experience working with SQL and relational databases
• Proven ability to troubleshoot, debug, and support live applications
• Comfort working within an existing codebase rather than building new solutions from scratch
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within established teams

Pay Rate: Targeting market-aligned contract rates
