Interim Executive Director – IT Infrastructure & Network Services

Type: Contract
Location: Columbia, SC 29208
Work Setting: Onsite
Candidate Location: Candidates must currently reside in South Carolina or be willing to relocate to South Carolina prior to the start date at their own expense.

We are seeking an experienced executive leader to provide interim leadership for a large IT Infrastructure and Network Services organization during a critical period of organizational transformation.

This position will lead organizational stabilization, operational improvement, cultural transformation, and strategic planning while ensuring continuity of critical IT services. The successful candidate will work closely with executive leadership to improve organizational performance, strengthen governance, rebuild accountability, and prepare the organization for a successful transition to permanent leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership for IT Infrastructure and Network Services operations.

  • Lead organizational transformation, restructuring, and culture improvement initiatives.

  • Evaluate organizational effectiveness and implement operational improvements.

  • Establish performance expectations, governance, and accountability across the organization.

  • Manage managers, supervisors, and professional staff.

  • Oversee resource allocation, budgeting, and strategic priorities.

  • Partner with executive leadership, Human Resources, and key stakeholders to address organizational challenges.

  • Develop transition plans, succession planning, and recommendations for permanent leadership.

  • Ensure continuity of critical IT services while driving organizational change.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, training, and experience).

  • 3+ years of executive experience leading organizational transformation and change management initiatives.

  • 3+ years leading organizational restructuring and culture transformation.

  • 3+ years providing executive leadership for large, complex technology organizations.

  • 3+ years managing personnel, coaching leaders, and driving performance accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading organizational turnaround initiatives.

  • Experience rebuilding organizational culture following periods of instability.

  • Experience implementing governance and operational maturity frameworks.

  • Experience managing organizational change within higher education.

  • Enterprise IT strategy development experience.

  • Experience working with executive leadership, governing boards, and cabinet-level administration.

  • Knowledge of network operations, enterprise network architecture, project management, and change management.

  • Experience supporting audit remediation and enterprise risk management initiatives.

You excel at rebuilding culture, improving operational performance, establishing accountability, and leading organizations through significant change while maintaining critical business operations.

  • Fully onsite position in Columbia, SC 29208.

  • Candidates must currently reside in South Carolina or relocate to South Carolina prior to starting at their own expense.
