Senior Business Systems Analyst
Type: Long-term Contract
Location: Austin, TX
Work Setting: Hybrid

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Systems Analyst to support multiple enterprise application initiatives focused on modernizing and enhancing critical business systems. This role will serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and software development teams, ensuring business needs are accurately translated into clear, actionable requirements throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with extensive experience in requirements gathering, business process analysis, user story development, and SDLC methodologies. This position plays a key role from project initiation through implementation, helping ensure solutions meet business objectives and deliver measurable value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business and system requirements.

  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions, interviews, workshops, and Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions.

  • Analyze current business processes and identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.

  • Develop detailed business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, use cases, and software requirements documentation.

  • Create wireframes and mockups to support solution design and improve user experience.

  • Collaborate closely with software development, quality assurance, and project teams throughout the SDLC.

  • Manage and maintain requirements throughout the project lifecycle, including change management and traceability.

  • Utilize Jira and Modern Requirements to document, manage, and track requirements and project progress.

  • Verify delivered solutions satisfy documented business requirements.

  • Mentor junior business analysts and promote business analysis best practices across project teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Years | Required/Preferred | Experience

  • 8 Years | Required | Experience eliciting requirements from interviews with customers and creating well-written system requirements

  • 8 Years | Required | Experience with software development life cycles (SDLCs)

  • 8 Years | Required | Business process re-engineering and software process flow improvement experience

  • 8 Years | Required | Experience developing user stories and use cases that conform to business analysis best practices

  • 8 Years | Required | Experience designing mockups and/or wireframes that conform to UX best practices

  • 5 Years | Required | Demonstrated strong communication and facilitation skills

  • 5 Years | Required | Demonstrated strong writing and organization skills

  • 4 Years | Required | Documented experience working for or closely with a federal, state, or local education agency or an education technology vendor

  • 2 Years | Required | Documented work experience with the issue tracking software Atlassian Jira

  • 2 Years | Required | Documented work experience with the requirements management software Modern Requirements

  • 1 Year | Preferred | Previous experience with Educator Certification

  • 1 Year | Preferred | Previous experience with Educator Preparation Program Data Collection and Accountability
